Join the Hurra Coalition

1. Overview

The Hurra Coalition brings together organizations committed to feminist principles and reform of family/personal status laws. The criteria below outline the requirements for membership, member responsibilities, and conditions for ending membership.

2. Core Membership Criteria

Human Rights Alignment
The organization must fully comply with international human rights standards.

Independence
Must be non-governmental, independent, and non-partisan.

Feminist & Human Rights Approach
Implements a feminist and rights-based approach that challenges gender stereotypes.

Relevant Experience
Has at least three years of work related to gender equality and women's rights, specifically on family/personal status laws (e.g., campaigns, events, studies, advocacy, conferences, etc.).

Legal Registration
Official proof of legal registration is required.

Organizational Capacity
Demonstrates the capacity to implement national campaigns and activities.

Active Participation
Commits to attending coalition meetings (annual, quarterly, or one-on-one) and sharing updates, challenges, and good practices.

Representation & Conduct
Members must uphold coalition values and represent the coalition responsibly in public, including media appearances.

Logo Use
The coalition logo must be used for activities supporting equality in family/personal status laws. It may not be used for political purposes or content that contradicts human rights standards or national laws.

Respectful Engagement
All representatives must treat others with fairness, respect, and dignity.

National Network Membership
Must be active members of a national women’s rights network, preferably one focused on family law. Existing members have one year to join such a network.

SEAH Policy Requirement
Members must have an internal SEAH (Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment) policy. If not available, it must be developed and approved within one year of joining.

3. Membership Forfeiture

Membership may be terminated if any of the following occur:

Non-Attendance
Failure to attend two regional meetings within the same calendar year.

Lack of Participation
Not engaging in any activity, campaign, or initiative related to family/personal status law reform within one year.

Network Non-Compliance
Failure to join a national women’s rights network within the required timeframe.

Misconduct
Engaging in behaviour that harms the coalition’s reputation, integrity, or the dignity of its members.

Misuse of Identity
Using the coalition logo or name for political purposes or in ways that contradict human rights standards or national laws.

4. Voluntary Termination

An organization may withdraw at any time by sending a written notice to all coalition members explaining the reason for leaving.
